Our Office Staff
Karen Duncan, Practice Manager
Karen brings 25 years’ experience as a Registered Veterinary Technician to our clinic, and in addition to her previous technical experience, she has trained, managed, and taught at an AVMA Accredited Veterinary Technology program. Karen comes to us after a long career with a large and progressive veterinary specialty hospital in Pittsburgh, where she worked in various departments, including dermatology, ophthalmology, internal medicine, surgery, MRI/CT, emergency, and dentistry. After she earned her MBA, she transitioned into training where she was responsible for the training needs of over 160 technicians and assistants.
When Karen isn’t at the clinic, you can find her spending time with her husband and their dogs, Brutus and Emily, and their cat, Bug. She enjoys outdoor activities, including hiking, fishing, and hunting, and reading.
Brittany Davis, Office Manager
Brittany joined the CVAC team in the summer of 2012. She now oversees the many needs of the staff and clients as the clinic’s Office Manager. She enjoys spending time with her eight-year-old son, Jeremy. In her spare time, she enjoys kickboxing, going to the firing range, and shopping. She has two fur babies of her own: Butternut and Taz.
Our Veterinary Technicians
Jan Huey, LVT
Jan came to Cahaba Valley Animal Clinic when Dr. Miller first opened the practice. She has 30 years of Veterinary Technician experience, 26 of them at CVAC. After years of hard work and expert patient care, she currently only works two days a week. She is married and has 6 rambunctious dogs. When she is not taking care of her fur babies or yours, she and her husband enjoy relaxing at their cabin in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Vicki first entered the veterinary field in 2010 at CVAC. She is currently pursuing her Applied Associate’s of Science Degree in Veterinary Technology at Jefferson State Community College to become an LVT. Vicki loves educating clients about preventive services like vaccines and Senior Wellness. She also loves caring for exotic birds! When she’s not providing excellent care for your animals or studying, she enjoys riding her Harley Davidson motorcycle, scuba diving, or shooting at the gun range.
Kelsey Lowery, LVT
Kelsey graduated from Jefferson State Community College in May of 2016 and became a Licensed Veterinary Technician in August of 2016. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their two fur babies, Sven and Dimitri. At Cahaba Valley, she loves working with a team that is just as passionate about animals as she is.
Arleen is the Groomer here at CVAC, and she wouldn’t want to be anywhere else! She has been grooming at Cahaba Valley Animal Clinic for 15 years.
“I treat my grooms like they are my own while they are here, and I treat my clients like I would want to be treated. We have everything here for all of your needs, from prescription diets to teeth cleaning, medical care, and senior care. Come and meet our staff and doctors and you will see why I love it here. Maybe you will love us too!”
Desarae became a part of the CVAC team as a receptionist in September of 2016. Having no previous experience in the pet care industry, she could not have imagined that she would enjoy what she does so much! She loves playing a part in the well-being of each fur baby that comes to the clinic. She was born and raised in Alabama, and she enjoys spending her free time with her newborn son.
Jessica joined the CVAC team as a receptionist in February 2017 and has enjoyed every minute working with such an incredible and loving staff. She studied both Art and Veterinary Medicine at Jefferson State. She has two wonderful kids, Luna and Odin, as well as 3 dogs and 3 cats that adopted her! She’s been passionate about animals her entire life, the furry and the feathery and even the scaly ones! She enjoys spending time with her kids, drawing and painting, collecting and reading comics, and anything to do with Tim Burton.
A Troy native, Savannah-Jane became a part of the CVAC team after moving to Birmingham in August of 2017. She is currently a receptionist and is working very hard at Jefferson State to become a Veterinary Technician. She has been an animal advocate for many years and treats every client and their pets like family. She also has two very loved dogs of her own: Lola, a Rottweiler mix rescue, and Lila, a Golden Retriever. You will never see Savannah-Jane without a smile on her face!
